about us

Holding Her Space is a community-based prenatal, birth and postnatal doula service that supports new mums and mums-to-be on the delicate journey into motherhood. We provide non-clinical, holistic and personalised support for women and families throughout the stages of pregnancy and parenthood. Based in Manchester and established in 2018, our team is passionate about improving outcomes for mums from African and Caribbean communities through a variety of services and also working alongside partner organisations to bridge the gap of care received.
We work diligently to ensure that our ‘village’ is equipped with the tools needed to feel empowered, nurtured and better informed for birth and beyond through:

vision & mission

“OUR VISION IS TO BRIDGE THE GAP IN BIRTH INEQUALITIES AND OUTCOMES FOR BLACK WOMEN.”

Our mission is to support black women and their families in achieving better outcomes in pregnancy and birth. We aim to raise awareness and provide education to promote a healthy start to parenthood.through our extended programmes, our impact will extend beyond the womb and give black babies and the next generation, the best start in life

THE BEAUTY OF BIRTH LIES IN THE DIFFERENCES OF EACH WOMAN, THEIR TRADITIONS AND THEIR JOURNEY. WE KEEP CULTURAL AWARENESS AT THE FRONT OF WHAT WE DO.

Why Holding Her Space?

Our mission is to support black women and their families in achieving better outcomes in pregnancy and birth. We aim to raise awareness and provide education to promote a healthy start to parenthood.through our extended programmes, our impact will extend beyond the womb and give black babies and the next generation, the best start in life

Birth has been a rite of passage through millions of years of wisdom and experiences passed down through generations. Its concept has existed since the beginning of time. It is in your DNA. All we do is gently assist and support in preparing for the birth of babies and support the rebirth into motherhood. This rebirth happens with each child, and we help with that transition by honouring your decisions, choices and needs.

We are one of few doula organisations in the UK working hard to provide accessible traditional doula support for the Black women with doulas that reflect clients’ physical, emotional and cultural needs.
