Untold Stories Of The Village

THE VILLAGE - IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO BIRTH A MOTHER AND RAISE A CHILD

Holding Her Space is a community- based doula organisation providing pregnancy, birth and postnatal support and holistic services for African, Caribbean and South Asian new mums, mums-to-be and their families. Our team is composed of doulas, yoga teachers, holistic therapy coaches, mental health support workers and much more. At the core of the work we do, we aim to rebirth the village by ensuring multiple support services are easily accessible so mothers have the support and resources to have healthy and safe births.

We are constantly encouraged not to speak about our experiences through fear of shame, and being ridiculed. Now the Village speaks.

Time to be seen, time to be heard and time to Listen.

Holding Her Space funded by NATIONAL LOTTERY HERITAGE FUND and in partnership with Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race and Education Centre and Contact Theatre, have come together to create an impactful project set to change the way we view pregnancy and birth. African, Caribbean and Asian women have been facing devastating maternity disparities for many years. Black women especially have been subject to dire realities, including being five – four times more likely to die in childbirth with women from Asian ethnic backgrounds facing a two-fold risk. This intergenerational project aims to highlight some of these experiences through the voices and stories of our communities.
